Our programs would not exist without the many dedicated mentors who generously donate their time and experience to help our young entrepreneurs across Canada. CYBF hand-matches qualified business mentors with young entrepreneurs to allow knowledge sharing which drives a higher business success rate. We thank all of you who have joined our program, and we welcome new business professionals to join.

Benefits of Becoming A CYBF Mentor

  • Allows successful business professionals to give back to their community
  • Enables volunteer mentors to build and develop effective mentoring skills within internationally recognized standards of mentoring

Profile of a CYBF Mentor

  • Experienced entrepreneur/business professional with strong business acumen
  • Effective communicator and advisor
  • Available for in person meetings with entrepreneur(s), for a minimum of 4 hours per month

Process To Become A CYBF Mentor

  1. Interview by CYBF & Online registration
  2. Reference checks and possible criminal check
  3. Online Mentor Profiler Assessment (optional)
  4. Match with local CYBF entrepreneur - typically within three months
  5. In person meeting between entrepreneur and mentor to complete online orientation
  6. Separate follow-up call to both mentor and entrepreneur to confirm relationship progress

CYBF Mentor Training

CYBF mentors and entrepreneurs typically reside in the same community and meet in person to complete our online orientation program. CYBF's training involves interactive modules outlining best mentoring practices ranging from roles and responsibilities and communication techniques, to expectation management tips aimed at creating a customized mentoring agreement and building a strong foundation for the mentoring relationship.

CYBF Mentor Reporting

Both CYBF entrepreneurs and mentors are required to complete quarterly online reports. The reports take only 15 minutes to complete, and have been created for ease of use and submission. They provide critical information enabling CYBF to maintain ongoing quality control over the mentoring relationship as well as the progress of the business start-up.

The Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) is a national charity dedicated to growing our nation's economy one young entrepreneur at a time. We look at character not collateral, when providing youth, age 18-34, with pre-launch coaching, business resources, start-up financing and mentoring, to help them launch and sustain a successful entrepreneurial business.
